Joe Saumarez-Smith, over at Bloomberg of all places, is wondering why the NFL doesn’t take control of the wagers placed on its games. He surmises that the NFL’s anti-gambling stance is costing the league BILLIONS. And any sensible fan could see the opportunities for profit, not only for the League, but for the government as well, if gambling wasn’t contained in Vegas only. All debates about morals aside, its a virtual certainty that internet gambling will be legalized in the next 5-10 years. And the NFL needs to lead the charge. This is not the 1930’s where the Mob is going to get to somebody and force them to shave points. Actually, with all the technology out there, it should be fairly easy for the league and the sports books to monitor unusual betting patterns. It’s a no brainer folks! Then weed and prostitution, and we are set!
