You wanna buy this football?

I guess the canned cliché responses weren’t enough for Santonio Holmes on media day. Holmes detailed his experience as a street dealer when he was a youth in Belle Glade, Florida. On one hand, I have to applaud the kid for coming out with this in a world where most athletes only want to talk about “giving 110%” and “being a team player.” It’s refreshing to hear someone open up about something so personal and embarrassing to them. On the other hand, being so candid about your personal life could backfire on you, especially since Holmes was busted for weed possession a few months back. It kind of sends a mixed message to the audience. Don’t SELL drugs, but go ahead and USE them. Personally, I don’t consider weed a drug, but the consumers who buy the shit that the NFL sells in their commercials are white bread hypocrites cut from the cloth of Jerry Falwell, so I am not sure how Santonio’s admission will play to the league and the sponsors.
